Obligatory masks wearing in Biarritz and closed beaches

New mayor MAIDER AROSTEGUY has put new rules against the spreading of the virus COVID-19 for the city of Biarritz.

You have to wear the mask on streets, starting the 3rd of august

From Monday August 3, it will be compulsory to wear a mask outside, in the busiest areas of the city center.
After consulting the other mayors of the coast on measures to protect summer visitors and residents, the mayor of Biarritz has chosen to impose the wearing of masks outside, limited to areas with high pedestrian traffic.

The area concerned is delimited by:

  • to the south, the Hélianthe roundabout which leads to the avenue de Londres, the rue Gambetta, Peyroloubilh and the prospect of the Côte des Basques
  • to the north, at the beginning of Avenue Edouard VII at the entrance to the Hôtel du Palais, which also leads to Boulevard du Général de Gaulle and the promenade de la Grande Plage.
  • to the east, at the end of avenue de Verdun (junction with rue Maison Suisse) towards Place Clemenceau as well as at the Francois-Régis Bastide roundabout (Gare du Midi)
  • by the sea: the following pedestrian walks: Promenoir de la Grande Plage, Port des Pêcheurs, Rocher de la Vierge and Boulevard du Prince de Galles to the Établissement des Bains.

Also beaches are closed starting the 4th of august at night

From Tuesday August 4, all the beaches of Biarritz will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. , in order to put an end to night gatherings on the beaches. Indeed, the latter have increased this summer due to an unusual influx from the start of the season and the closure of nightclubs imposed by sanitary measures, and are highly contaminating.
